A village administrative officer (VAO) named Karthik was arrested by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) in Cumbum after allegedly demanding and accepting a ₹5,000 bribe to correct a name on a land record. The complainant, Logamani, had approached the VAO to fix an erroneous entry in his land record and reported the demand to authorities. The arrest highlights ongoing corruption concerns in local administrative processes related to land documentation.

Village Administrative Officer Karthik was caught red-handed by DVAC officials in Cumbum while accepting a ₹5,000 bribe from Logamani to correct a name on a land record. According to the DVAC account, Logamani's name had been erroneously recorded as 'Logarani' in the land record, and when he approached the VAO for correction, Karthik allegedly demanded the bribe as a condition for processing the correction. After Logamani reported the demand through his relative Kanagaraj, DVAC sleuths set up a trap operation and apprehended the VAO upon accepting the payment. The officer has been arrested and remains under investigation for the alleged bribery offense.
