Yercaud Express Switches to Advanced LHB Coaches Starting June 10

The Erode–Chennai Central–Erode Yercaud Express has begun operating with Linke Hofmann Busch (LHB) coaches, with one direction starting June 10 and the other from June 13, 2026. LHB coaches are lighter, faster, and more efficient than conventional coaches, offering improved passenger comfort and safety features. The upgrade is part of Indian Railways' modernization efforts to enhance service quality on this route.
The Salem Railway Division announced the introduction of advanced LHB coaches on the Yercaud Express, with Train No. 22650 (Erode–Chennai Central) beginning operations with the new coaches on June 10, 2026, and Train No. 22649 (Chennai Central–Erode) following on June 13. The LHB coaches, originally developed in Germany but now manufactured in India, offer significant advantages over conventional coaches including lighter weight, higher operating speeds, and increased passenger capacity. The new rake composition includes one AC First Class-cum-AC Two-Tier coach, two AC Two-Tier coaches, three AC Three-Tier coaches, 10 Sleeper Class coaches, four General Second Class coaches, one luggage-cum-disabled-friendly coach, and one power car. Key features of the LHB coaches include advanced pneumatic disc brakes, improved suspension systems, modern interiors, higher-capacity air-conditioning, and fire-retardant furnishing materials that require less maintenance. This upgrade reflects Indian Railways' broader modernization initiative to improve passenger experience and operational efficiency.
