Woman Killed by Leopard in Uttarakhand; Animal Shot Dead by Forest Officials

The leopard was subsequently shot dead by forest department hunters after it charged at officials and villagers during a search operation. Prabha Devi, 55, was attacked and killed by a leopard while gathering fodder near her home in Badi village, Pauri Garhwal district. When she failed to return, her husband found her torso and blood stains in the fields and alerted villagers. A joint search operation involving forest department officials, hunters, police, and revenue officials was launched. The woman's body was discovered inside an abandoned structure approximately 200 metres from the initial site. When the leopard emerged and charged aggressively at the search party, forest department hunters opened fire in self-defence, killing the animal on the spot. Officials stated that post-mortem examinations would be conducted on both the woman and the leopard carcass to confirm the animal's involvement in the attack.
