Police in Chennai arrested a woman named Sumathi in connection with a burglary in T. Nagar where 96 sovereigns of gold and 780 grams of silver were stolen from a resident's home on June 1. Sumathi's husband allegedly broke into the house and stole the jewellery, giving some to his wife who was hiding it. Police have recovered the stolen items and are searching for the husband.

On June 1, a resident of T. Nagar named Sujatha discovered her home had been broken into while she was at work, with gold, diamond jewellery, and silver articles missing. After filing a complaint with Pondy Bazaar police, investigators identified Sumathi from Thoothukudi as a suspect after learning her husband was allegedly involved in the burglary. According to police, the husband broke open the main door, stole the jewellery, and gave a portion to Sumathi, who subsequently concealed it. Sumathi was arrested on June 11 and the stolen items were recovered from her possession. Police continue to search for her husband, who fled after the crime.
