Police in Vellore arrested Mujib Basha, a 45-year-old trader, after conducting a surprise inspection of petty shops near the fort complex on Tuesday. During the search of his shop, officers found approximately 5 kg of gutka ready for sale, and a subsequent search of a rented house in the area yielded around 95 kg of the banned substance. According to police, Basha had been sourcing the gutka from Chittoor in Andhra Pradesh for retail distribution. The operation was conducted under orders from Vellore's Superintendent of Police, N.U. Sivaraman. Basha, who had been living in Vellore for many years, has been lodged at Central Prison, and an investigation is ongoing.
