Coimbatore prepares infrastructure and emergency response for monsoon season
Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation has deployed pumps, backup generators, and tree-cutting equipment at flood-prone underpasses and roads ahead of the southwest monsoon. The corporation has stationed multiple high-capacity pumps at four major underpasses and established emergency response teams to handle monsoon-related issues. These preparations aim to minimize waterlogging and ensure rapid response to public complaints during the rainy season.
The Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation has completed monsoon readiness preparations, installing pumps ranging from 7.5 HP to 36 HP capacity at four major underpasses identified as waterlogging hotspots. Lanka Corner underpass received two pumps, Uppilipalayam flyover underpass was equipped with five pumps and a backup generator, Kikani School underpass got three pumps, and Kaleeswara Mill underpass was fitted with three motor pumps and a backup generator. Corporation Commissioner Katta Ravi Teja announced that additional tree-cutting machinery and personnel have been deployed across the city to quickly clear fallen trees and branches from roads. The corporation has also established multiple communication channels for public complaints, including a WhatsApp helpline and five zonal control room numbers, to ensure rapid response to monsoon-related grievances.
