CBI Arrests Two in Human Trafficking Network Operating Cyber-Scam Compounds in Southeast Asia

1 source

The Central Bureau of Investigation arrested two individuals, Nipender Chaudhary and Nilesh Narpatsinh Purohit, for their roles in a human trafficking network that lured Indian nationals to scam compounds in Myanmar and Cambodia under false employment promises. The accused allegedly arranged illegal border crossings and managed recruitment networks across India while victims were coerced into cybercrime activities with restricted movement and confiscated passports. The case highlights transnational cybercrime operations that exploit trafficked individuals to conduct large-scale financial fraud targeting victims worldwide.

The CBI has arrested two key figures in a human trafficking and cyber-slavery operation that transported Indian nationals to scam compounds in Southeast Asia, particularly Myanmar and Cambodia. Nipender Chaudhary allegedly arranged logistics for victims to be transported from Bangkok through Mae Sot and illegally across the Thailand-Myanmar border, while Nilesh Narpatsinh Purohit managed a network of sub-agents across India and operated from a scam compound office near the Thailand-Myanmar border, receiving cryptocurrency payments from compound operators. According to the CBI, these compounds are run by transnational cybercrime syndicates and serve as hubs for large-scale cyber-enabled financial fraud targeting multiple countries. Trafficked Indian nationals were allegedly coerced into illegal cybercrime activities with restricted freedom of movement, confiscated passports, and reports of physical and psychological abuse. Families were reportedly compelled to pay substantial sums to secure victims' release. This arrest follows earlier CBI searches at eight locations across four states in May 2026 that resulted in another arrest connected to the trafficking network.
