Andhra Pradesh Promotes PPP Model for Urban Infrastructure Development
Andhra Pradesh's Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister P. Narayana announced the state's push for Public-Private Partnership (PPP) projects to address infrastructure gaps in Urban Local Bodies across drinking water, sewerage, roads, and sanitation. The state has developed a pipeline of 56 PPP projects worth ₹23,801.21 crore and is conducting capacity-building workshops for 36 selected ULBs to prepare bankable project proposals. The initiative aims to bridge the gap between citizen expectations and available infrastructure while maintaining municipal asset ownership.
Andhra Pradesh is prioritizing urban infrastructure development through a multi-pronged approach combining government support, the Urban Challenge Fund, PPP models, HUDCO assistance, institutional finance, and municipal revenues. A two-day capacity-building workshop in Vijayawada brought together officials from 36 selected ULBs including major cities like Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, and Tirupati to prepare bankable project proposals. The state's MAUD Principal Secretary emphasized that while citizens expect reliable services in drinking water, roads, and drainage, significant infrastructure gaps persist. Officials clarified that PPP should not be confused with privatization and stressed the importance of maintaining municipal ownership of assets while following established guidelines. The state has already identified 56 PPP projects with an estimated investment of ₹23,801.21 crore, and ULBs have been directed to submit at least one well-structured proposal for state-level review.

His return comes as Reform UK loses political ground to the further-right Restore Britain party, and observers suggest his absence has been an attempt to dodge accountability on the donation's origins and propriety.
