The steelman version of the claim is straightforward: '18 years' was arithmetically accurate around 2020, when the streak dating from 2002 had run approximately 18 years. Fox News press releases and on-air promotions used that figure at the time, and it was well-grounded in Nielsen data. The core assertion — a long, unbroken #1 cable news streak — is not in dispute.

Here is precisely where the claim breaks down. First, the number is stale. If the '18 years' figure was stated after 2020, it was already an undercount; by 2022 the streak stood at 20 years, and by 2023 it had reached approximately 21. Repeating an outdated milestone as though it were current quietly shrinks a larger achievement. Second, and more importantly, the claim says 'television news channel,' not 'cable news channel.'
