These numbers are consistent across every authoritative source.

When PolitiFact examined a 2015 Trump statement citing roughly 58,000 deaths, they rated it largely accurate. That's not a lie — it's a reasonable approximation of a documented figure. The Washington Post noted that Trump has made various statements about Vietnam casualties over the years, some precise and some rounded, but found no single statement that constituted a clear, deliberate falsehood about the death toll.

To be fair to the claim's strongest form: Trump has been imprecise about Vietnam on multiple occasions, and imprecision about war deaths is worth scrutinizing. There's also legitimate criticism of Trump's relationship with the Vietnam War given his draft deferments. But imprecision is not the same as lying, and the evidence doesn't pin down a specific false number he stated as fact.
