Two Police Constables Arrested in Kidnap-for-Ransom Case in Coimbatore

Two police constables attached to Nallur police station in Tiruppur district were arrested in Podanur, Coimbatore, for allegedly abducting two men and demanding ₹50 lakh in ransom. The constables were apprehended at a ransom handover location and have admitted to the abduction, which was allegedly orchestrated by two other men also now in custody. The two victims were rescued and police are investigating counter-allegations that the abducted men were involved in illegal lottery operations.
Police constables Anand (37) and Mohan (36) were arrested at Podanur in Coimbatore city in connection with the kidnapping of two youth, Nirmal Kumar (29) and Naveen (29), for a ransom demand of ₹50 lakh. The constables were overpowered by an investigating team at the location where a ransom handover was arranged with the sister of one of the abducted men. According to reports, the constables admitted to carrying out the abduction at the behest of Kalidas (31) and Ramkumar (30) of Tiruppur, who were subsequently arrested as well. The two abducted men were rescued by police during the operation. The investigation has expanded to include allegations from Kalidas and Ramkumar that the victims were engaged in illegal lottery sales disguised as online business operations.
