Tirumala Temple Serves 3 Lakh Free Meals Daily Through Annaprasadam Scheme

The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) distributes approximately 300,000 free meals daily to pilgrims at the Tirumala temple in India through its Annaprasadam Trust. The program, which began in 1985, has grown into one of the world's largest free meal initiatives, serving over 4.40 crore meals between January and May 2026. The scheme represents a major humanitarian effort and a defining feature of the Tirumala pilgrimage experience.
The Tirumala temple's Annaprasadam Trust operates one of the world's largest free meal programs, serving nearly 300,000 free portions daily to pilgrims. The initiative, which originated as the Nitya Annadanam scheme on April 6, 1985, has expanded significantly under TTD management, distributing over 4.40 crore servings in the first five months of 2026 alone. Daily operations involve serving approximately 70,000 devotees milk and tea, 60,000 breakfast, 100,000 lunch, and 56,000 dinner. The logistical operation requires nearly 15.8 tonnes of rice, 2,861 kg of pulses, and 3,110 kg of edible oil daily across multiple distribution centers. The TTD has modernized infrastructure with the 2024 Vakulamatha Centralised Kitchen and plans a fully automated satellite kitchen capable of preparing meals for 200,000 pilgrims daily. With fixed deposits exceeding ₹2,460 crore, the Annaprasadam Trust has become a substantial faith-driven public service model.
