Thrissur District Steps Up Flood Prevention Measures on Chalakudy River Amid Heavy Rains

The Thrissur district administration in Kerala has intensified precautionary measures to prevent flooding along the Chalakudy river as monsoon rains intensify, with particular focus on monitoring the Sholayar and Peringalkuthu dams. The Peringalkuthu dam, a relatively small reservoir, is being maintained at its crest level with shutters kept open to prevent sudden water surges that could cause waterlogging in nearby areas. The measures come as the India Meteorological Department issued an orange alert for the district, prompting implementation of state disaster management guidelines.
