Saw: Genesis Reimagines Asymmetrical Multiplayer Horror as Escape Room Game

2 sources

Bloober Team revealed Saw: Genesis at Summer Game Fest 2026, a 3v1 multiplayer game that reimagines the Saw franchise as an escape room experience rather than a traditional slasher game. The game features three Accused players working together to escape death traps while one Judge player (a post-WWI predecessor to Jigsaw) hunts them from the shadows, with the Judge being physically weak but strategically advantaged. The game's success will depend on balancing asymmetrical gameplay and managing player demand to play the more powerful antagonist role.

Saw: Genesis, developed by Bloober Team's Broken Mirror Games subsidiary in collaboration with Anshar Studios, transforms the Saw franchise into a cooperative escape room game with asymmetrical multiplayer mechanics. Set in the 1920s as a prequel to the film series, the game divides players into one Judge (the era's version of Jigsaw) and three Accused victims. The Accused must navigate procedurally generated mazes, complete objectives, and solve challenges while the Judge uses superior map knowledge, hidden corridors, traps, and an AI Accomplice to stop them. Notably, the Judge is physically vulnerable and can be killed by the Accused, maintaining thematic consistency with the films. Players can sacrifice body parts or health to speed through challenges or escape traps, creating high-stakes decision points. Each 10-15 minute round concludes when the Accused either escape, die, or the Judge is defeated, with the game entering early access on Steam soon.
