RCMP Investigates Violent Online Group Targeting Children on Vancouver Island

West Shore RCMP announced on June 10, 2026, that they are investigating three recent cases of children between the ages of 10 and 14 who were coerced into sexual exploitation and acts of violence by the extremist network 764, part of a larger online network known as 'The COM.' RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Nancy Saggar described the group as a 'violent online entity' whose explicit intent is to harm children and spread that harm online. 764 was classified by the Canadian government as a terrorist entity in December 2024, making Canada the first country to do so. The group, which emerged during the early COVID-19 pandemic, grooms children on mainstream gaming and streaming platforms before migrating them to encrypted apps like Discord and Telegram, where they are coerced into producing sexually explicit or violent content that is then used to extort further compliance. Outreach counsellor Mia Golden of the Mobile Youth Services Team said the actual number of victims is likely far higher than reported, as many children remain silent due to threats against themselves and their families. The group's reach extends internationally, with incidents linked to 764 recorded in the United States, United Kingdom, Sweden, and across Canada, including a 14-year-old Alberta member charged in 2024 and alleged leaders facing charges in the U.S. RCMP are urging parents to monitor children's online activity, maintain open communication, and report suspected exploitation to Cybertip.ca or local police.
