Nvidia Hires Veteran Lobbyist Bruce Andrews as Chief External Affairs Officer
Nvidia has hired Bruce Andrews, a veteran lobbyist and former Intel government affairs chief, to head its government affairs operations in Washington, D.C. Andrews previously served as a Commerce Department official during the Obama administration and will report to Nvidia's general counsel. The hire comes as Nvidia seeks to maintain influence in Washington amid scrutiny over its business ties to China and efforts to continue selling advanced chips there.
Nvidia has appointed Bruce Andrews as Chief External Affairs Officer to lead its government affairs efforts in Washington, D.C., according to sources and Andrews' own LinkedIn post on June 11. Andrews brings extensive experience in government relations, having served as Intel's government affairs chief under former CEO Pat Gelsinger and as a Commerce Department official during the Obama administration. The hire reflects Nvidia's efforts to strengthen its political influence as the company navigates renewed scrutiny over its China business, where it seeks to continue growing despite U.S. export restrictions on its most advanced AI chips. Nvidia has received licenses to sell less advanced H200 chips to China, though Reuters reported in May that no deliveries had been made to the roughly 10 Chinese companies cleared to purchase them. CEO Jensen Huang has publicly argued that selling hardware to China is crucial to prevent non-American competitors from capturing that market. Andrews will report to Nvidia's general counsel, Tim Teter.

These failures highlight systemic challenges in regulating rapidly evolving AI technology across both public and private sectors. The gaps underscore broader questions about whether self-regulation and existing frameworks can adequately manage AI risks as adoption accelerates.
