1 source

Jonathan Pettigrew, 41, was shot and killed on a Bronx bus Monday after asking a teenager to lower his voice during a phone call. The suspect, a teen, fled the scene and remains at large. The incident highlights the dangers of confrontations over minor disturbances in public spaces.

Jonathan Pettigrew, a 41-year-old father of seven, was fatally shot in the abdomen on a Bx36 bus in the Bronx near East Tremont Avenue and White Plains Road around 2:30 p.m. Monday after confronting a teenager about the volume of his cell phone conversation. The teen pulled a handgun and shot Pettigrew, who was transported to Jacobi Medical Center where he died. Police said the suspect fled southbound on White Plains Road wearing a white T-shirt and remains at large. Pettigrew's brother told reporters that Jonathan struggled with anxiety and was particularly sensitive to loud noise, suggesting the phone conversation had significantly bothered him. According to his aunts, Pettigrew worked in catering and was likely on his way to pick up his youngest daughter from school, following his regular routine.
