Malkajgiri police have identified 43 accident black spots and 20 hotspots requiring urgent intervention in their jurisdiction. NH-65 (Vijayawada Highway) is the most accident-prone road, with 259 accidents and 17 deaths in the first five months of 2026. Authorities are implementing engineering improvements, enhanced enforcement, and awareness campaigns as part of the 'Arrive Alive' road safety initiative.
As part of the fourth phase of the 'Arrive Alive' road safety campaign, Malkajgiri police and civic authorities conducted awareness programmes at five major accident-prone locations on Wednesday. Data shows 1,466 road accidents were reported in the commissionerate limits between January and May 2026, resulting in 134 fatal accidents and 143 deaths across a 401.8 kilometre road network. NH-65 recorded 259 accidents and 17 deaths during this period, making it the most dangerous stretch. To address these issues, authorities have proposed measures including road engineering improvements, installation of warning signboards, enhanced highway patrolling, designated parking facilities, and stricter traffic enforcement. Police Commissioner B. Sumathi urged motorists to follow traffic rules and highlighted support schemes including the Rah-Veer (Good Samaritan) scheme offering ₹25,000 rewards and the PM Rahat Scheme providing up to ₹1.5 lakh in cashless treatment for accident victims.
