Shiv Sena workers loyal to Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde subsequently located the driver, reportedly 'taught him a lesson,' and handed him over to Vartak Nagar Police Station. Shinde then directed Thane Police Commissioner Ashutosh Dumbre to invoke Section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which pertains to attempt to murder, against the accused. Despite this directive, police officials confirmed that no formal case has been registered as the elderly victim has not yet approached police or filed a complaint. The incident has attracted significant attention partly because Thane is considered a political stronghold of Shinde.
