Lego Releases 12,060-Piece Sagrada Família Set as Barcelona Basilica Nears Completion

Lego is releasing a new 12,060-piece architectural set depicting Barcelona's Sagrada Família basilica, with availability planned for November 2026. The set, standing approximately two feet tall, incorporates the church's most iconic features including its distinctive towers, stained-glass windows, apse, crypt, naves, and three main façades. Notably, the building instructions follow the actual construction sequence of the basilica itself. The release coincides with the 100th anniversary of Antoni Gaudí's death in 1926 and comes as the real basilica approaches completion after 144 years of construction. Gaudí's ambitious design drew inspiration from classical Greek, Byzantine, and Gothic architecture but innovatively combined these styles with geometric principles and structural engineering insights to create entirely new architectural forms. The basilica's lengthy construction timeline resulted from multiple factors: Gaudí's death while the structure was only one-quarter complete, the destruction of his original plans and models during the Spanish Civil War, and ongoing funding limitations from donations and ticket sales. Pope Francis is scheduled to hold a special inauguration mass on June 10, 2026, though interior work is expected to continue for years.
