Kochi Metro Rail Limited Says It's Working to Minimize Construction Disruptions on Phase II Corridor

1 source

Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) stated it is coordinating with traffic authorities and local bodies to reduce public inconvenience from Phase II corridor construction between Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium and Infopark. The 10.58-km project has caused severe traffic congestion, particularly at Palarivattom and Kakkanad, despite KMRL's efforts to manage diversions and maintenance. The corridor is targeted for completion by June 2027 with commissioning planned for August 2027.

Kochi Metro Rail Limited responded to criticism about construction-related traffic disruptions on its Phase II corridor project by emphasizing its coordination efforts with stakeholders. The company stated it is working with traffic authorities, local bodies, and other agencies to address traffic management, road conditions, drainage, and public safety concerns. KMRL noted that it had requested approximately ₹7 crore in funding for strengthening side roads used for traffic diversion but had not received dedicated funding for this purpose. Despite this constraint, the company said it is undertaking maintenance and restoration measures in coordination with relevant agencies. KMRL is conducting weekly stakeholder review meetings to assess progress and resolve issues, with more frequent reviews during monsoon season. The project targets completion by June 2027, followed by testing and commissioning activities, with the corridor expected to become operational in August 2027.
