JSW Infrastructure Wins Bid for Kolkata Port Container Terminal Expansion

1 source

JSW Infrastructure has been awarded a contract to develop an Outer Container Terminal with two and five berths at Kolkata's Netaji Subhas Dock under a 30-year PPP agreement. This project will add approximately 0.93 million TEUs of container handling capacity, complementing JSW's earlier award for Berth 7 and 8 reconstruction. Combined with existing projects, JSW's total container capacity at Kolkata Dock System will reach approximately 1.4 million TEUs, strengthening the company's position in India's eastern port infrastructure.

JSW Infrastructure Limited has secured a Letter of Award from Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port Authority (SMPA) in Kolkata for the integrated development of an Outer Container Terminal comprising two berths and five berths at Netaji Subhas Dock. The project will be executed under a design, build, finance, operate, and transfer (DBFOT) model within a Public Private Partnership framework with a 30-year concession tenure. The development is structured in two phases and will create approximately 0.93 million TEUs of container handling capacity. This award builds on JSW's earlier Letter of Award for the reconstruction of Berth 8 and mechanization of Berths 7 and 8 at the same location, which will contribute 0.45 million TEUs. Upon completion of both projects, JSW's combined container handling capacity at Kolkata Dock System is expected to reach approximately 1.4 million TEUs. The company stated that the projects are designed to address existing capacity constraints, improve berth productivity through mechanization, and enhance vessel turnaround times, supported by strong demand fundamentals from the Kolkata metropolitan region and established hinterland cargo flows.
