Israeli Public Confidence in Trump's Commitment to Israel's Security Drops Sharply, Poll Shows

1 source

A new Israel Democracy Index survey found that only 44% of Israelis now believe Israeli security is a key concern for Trump, down from 60% in March. The decline coincides with a ceasefire agreement and US-Iran negotiations from which Israel has been largely excluded. The shift reflects growing Israeli skepticism about whether a negotiated end to the war would adequately protect Israel's security interests.

According to an Israel Democracy Index survey conducted in early June, Israeli public confidence in Trump's prioritization of Israeli security has declined significantly since March. Among Jewish Israelis specifically, the figure dropped from 64% to 41%, marking the lowest level since the survey began tracking the question in November 2024. The timing is notable: the survey was conducted before Iran's renewed missile attacks on Israel and Trump's subsequent directive to Netanyahu against retaliation. The decline appears linked to Israel's exclusion from ongoing US-Iran negotiations aimed at a permanent end to the war that began in February. When asked about the compatibility of a ceasefire with Israel's security, 63% of Jewish Israelis expressed skepticism, believing it would be compatible only to a small extent or not at all. Additionally, Israeli respondents showed low expectations for a negotiated deal, with only 32% believing it would address the ballistic missile threat and 28% expecting it to weaken the Iranian regime.

The UK government announced new powers allowing authorities to close illegal mini-marts, barbers, and vape shops for up to 12 months, doubling the current maximum closure period of six months. The change follows a BBC News investigation exposing drug gangs, money laundering, and other organized crime linked to shops selling illegal cigarettes, vapes, and drugs on British high streets. The measure aims to give investigators more time to gather evidence and prevent rogue operators from quickly reopening, with support from Trading Standards officers who have long lacked sufficient enforcement tools.
