Intel has publicly explained Project Firefly, its reference design program aimed at making budget laptops based on the Wildcat Lake (Core Series 3) mobile platform significantly cheaper to produce. Rather than relying solely on a lower-cost processor, Intel worked with smartphone factories in China to integrate the mature and cost-efficient smartphone component supply chain into laptop design — including LPDDR5X phone-class system memory, smartphone-sourced audio chips, a newly engineered thin copper heat pipe for cooling, and standardized cabling for a separate I/O board.
