The Kailash Manasarovar pilgrimage, organized by India's Ministry of External Affairs, had been suspended for five years due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the military standoff on the Line of Actual Control in eastern Ladakh, but resumed in June 2025 following diplomatic improvements. This visit marks Doraiswami's first trip outside Beijing since assuming his ambassadorial role and reflects the broader normalization of India-China relations, which accelerated after Prime Minister Modi and President Xi Jinping met in Kazan, Russia in 2024.
