IEEE TryEngineering OnCampus Program Expands to Seven Universities Globally
The IEEE TryEngineering OnCampus program expanded from two to seven universities, offering hands-on engineering experiences to pre-university students across Croatia, Egypt, Oman, Malaysia, Greece, and Hong Kong. The program, funded by the IEEE Innovation Committee, provides workshops in AI, robotics, quantum computing, and circuit design to students ages 10-18. The initiative aims to build technical skills and inspire interest in engineering careers among young learners.
The IEEE Educational Activities program expanded its OnCampus initiative to seven universities in 2024, with new locations in Zagreb (Croatia), Abu Kir (Egypt), Muscat (Oman), Arau (Malaysia), and Athens (Greece), alongside returning programs in Hong Kong and Greece. Across these sites, approximately 245 students participated in two-day workshops featuring hands-on activities in emerging technologies including artificial intelligence, quantum computing, robotics, circuit design, and IoT systems. The program combined technical instruction with career exploration, featuring lectures from university professors and engineers, facility tours, and project-based learning where students designed and built circuits or worked on AI applications. Post-program surveys indicated strong participant satisfaction, with nearly 75 percent rating the experience 4 or higher on a 5-point scale, with students highlighting the opportunity to learn both theoretical concepts and practical applications in cutting-edge technologies.
