Glenn Close, Ridley Scott, Floyd Norman, and Independent Producers to Receive Honorary Oscars at 2026 Governors Awards

The Academy's Board of Governors voted to present honorary Oscars to veteran actress Glenn Close, legendary director Ridley Scott, and Disney's first Black animator Floyd Norman, while also awarding the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award to independent film producers Christine Vachon and Pamela Koffler. The ceremony will take place on November 15, 2025, at the Ray Dolby Ballroom at Ovation Hollywood. Close, 79, has received eight Oscar nominations across her five-decade career spanning over 100 film credits, but has never won a competitive award, making her tied with the late Peter O'Toole for the most acting nominations without a win. Ridley Scott, the eighth-highest-grossing director of all time with films totaling $5 billion worldwide, has received four Oscar nominations (three for directing and one for producing) but has never won, despite his film "Gladiator" winning five Oscars including Best Picture. Floyd Norman, a 90-year-old animator who began his 65-year career at Disney in 1956, became the studio's first Black animator and contributed to classics including "Sleeping Beauty," "The Jungle Book," and "Mary Poppins." Vachon and Koffler are recognized for their central role in championing independent cinema through films such as "Boys Don't Cry," "Past Lives," and "May December."
