Deezer Launches Free AI Music Detection Tool for All Streaming Platforms
Deezer has released a free online tool that allows users of major streaming platforms to scan their playlists for AI-generated music. The move comes after Deezer pioneered AI music labeling on its own platform but found limited adoption of its detection technology by competitors. The tool addresses growing concerns about AI-generated tracks diluting artist royalties and represents an industry-wide effort to combat synthetic music proliferation.
French streaming platform Deezer launched a free AI music detector accessible to users across approximately 20 major streaming services, allowing them to identify synthetic tracks in their playlists regardless of platform. The tool builds on Deezer's earlier efforts to label and remove AI-generated music from its own service, where the company receives nearly 75,000 AI-generated tracks daily—over 44 percent of new music deliveries. Deezer is also licensing its detection technology to the broader music industry, including deals with organizations like France's royalty agency Sacem. The initiative addresses significant industry concerns: a 2024 Cisac study estimates that 25 percent of artists' revenue (€4 billion annually) could be at risk from AI-generated songs by 2028, and company data shows 43 percent of users switching to Deezer from competitors already have AI-generated music in their playlists. An 80 percent majority in a Deezer-Ipsos survey supports clear labeling of AI-generated music on streaming platforms.
