Christian School Teacher on Trial for Sexual Contact with Student; Second Teacher Already Sentenced in Same Case

1 source

Bonnie Elizabeth Brown, 26, a languages teacher at Nathanael Greene Academy in Georgia, is on trial for sexual contact with a 15-year-old student, with prosecutors presenting evidence including a sketch the victim drew of her bedroom. This case follows the sentencing of another teacher at the same school, Sherri Delle Mauldin, 61, to 12 years in prison for repeatedly having sex with the same student. The case has drawn attention to institutional failures at the private Christian school, which has since closed.

A 26-year-old languages teacher at a Georgia private Christian school is on trial for eight counts of sexual contact with a student. According to court testimony, the now-19-year-old accuser alleged he had sexual contact with Brown twice in 2023 when he was a ninth-grader—once at his aunt's home and once at her residence during spring break. Prosecutors presented evidence including a detailed sketch the victim drew of Brown's bedroom to help investigators, which he described in court using a pointer. The victim also testified that Brown sent him explicit images via Snapchat and gave him a ring while calling him her "favorite." This case emerged weeks after another teacher at the same school, Sherri Delle Mauldin, was sentenced to 12 years in prison for sexual contact with the same student. Brown was arrested in June 2024 and faces up to 20 years in prison per count if convicted. The scandal led to the closure of Nathanael Greene Academy.
