The Hubballi branch office of the Bureau of Indian Standards conducted a search and seizure operation at Panduranga Bommayya Vernekar Jewellers in Davangere on Tuesday, resulting in the confiscation of over 100 gold ornaments weighing 690.7 grams that bore fake BIS hallmarks and mandatory HUID (Hallmark Unique Identification) markings. The enforcement team, led by Director P.N. Murali and comprising Joint Directors Mohit Janoiya and Tushar Sharma and Assistant Director Ajay Chakrawarti, acted on credible intelligence regarding the sale of counterfeit hallmarked jewellery.
