B.C. Drivers Can Now Take Learner's Licence Knowledge Test Online

British Columbia's ICBC has launched an online option for the learner's licence knowledge test for passenger vehicles and motorcycles. The move aims to reduce wait times at ICBC offices and provide convenience for drivers in rural and remote areas. The change is part of broader efforts to modernize ICBC services while maintaining security through webcam monitoring and identity verification at offices.
ICBC, British Columbia's insurance and driver licensing authority, now allows new drivers to take the knowledge test for learner's licences online rather than only in person. The online test is identical to the in-person version but includes security features such as webcam and mouse movement tracking to prevent cheating or outside assistance. The test must be completed on a computer with a camera and secure internet connection, not a mobile device. After passing the online test, applicants must still visit an ICBC office to confirm identity, complete a vision test, and have their photo taken before receiving their learner's licence. ICBC contracted with Neumo, a testing platform that delivers 86 percent of tests nationwide and serves 23 North American jurisdictions, to administer the online test. Attorney General Niki Sharma stated the change provides greater convenience and accessibility, particularly for people in rural and remote communities.
