Android 17 QPR1 Beta 4 Released With Screen Reactions Feature for Content Creators

Google has released Android 17 QPR1 Beta 4, which includes a new Screen Reactions feature that allows users to record themselves and their phone screen simultaneously. The feature was previously announced at the Android Show and is designed to simplify reaction video creation for social media. The beta also includes multiple bug fixes addressing issues like invisible mouse pointers, settings app crashes, and camera performance problems.
Android 17 QPR1 Beta 4 is now available for eligible devices, bringing the Screen Reactions feature that enables simultaneous recording of a user's selfie camera feed in a movable, resizable window overlaid on the phone's display. This tool is intended to streamline the creation of reaction videos without requiring manual post-production combining of footage. Beyond this headline feature, the beta addresses numerous bugs from the previous version, including fixes for invisible mouse pointers on external displays, settings app crashes, 5x camera frame jumps and jitter, and severe 3D performance drops. The beta is currently limited to Google Pixel 6a and newer devices, excluding the standard Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro despite their eligibility for previous Android 17 betas. Given the beta's focus on bug fixes and the likelihood of an imminent stable release, users without spare devices are advised to wait for the final version.
