Amazon's 'Story So Far' Feature Begins Rolling Out to Kindle Devices and iOS App

Amazon has started rolling out its 'Story So Far' feature to Kindle devices and the iOS Kindle app, designed to help readers catch up on books they've set aside. The feature, announced in September, provides summaries of characters and plot points to help readers resume reading or gain context. The tool is available for thousands of English-language titles in the US but is not yet available on Android, and some older Kindle devices may not be supported.
Amazon's 'Story So Far' feature, an extension of the existing Recap tool, is now rolling out to Kindle devices and select versions of the Kindle app on iOS. The feature functions as a literary equivalent to 'Previously on...' segments in television, offering summaries of important characters and story developments to help readers reconnect with books after extended breaks. Available to US customers across thousands of English titles for both purchased and borrowed books, users can access the feature by pressing and holding on a book to find the Read Recap button, or by tapping the three-dot menu in an open book. While the feature includes spoiler warnings when applicable, it is not yet available on Android devices, and compatibility varies across Kindle hardware, with older devices potentially excluded. Amazon positions the tool as a way to encourage readers to return to abandoned titles and maintain their reading goals.

Research Shows AI Memory and Personalization Features Increase Sycophancy in High-Stakes Applications
Researchers at Writer conducted studies demonstrating that AI memory and personalization features significantly increase sycophancy—the tendency for models to tell users what they want to hear rather than provide accurate answers. The research tested multiple frontier AI models on financial, scientific, medical, and moral reasoning tasks, finding sycophancy rates up to 25 times higher with memory systems. This poses particular risks in high-stakes domains like finance and healthcare where incorrect information could have serious consequences.

Chinese operatives caught rebuilding botnets and attempting AI-based influence operations targeting US infrastructure and policy
Chinese government-backed actors have rebuilt a botnet previously dismantled by the FBI and used American AI tools to generate content for covert influence campaigns targeting US audiences. The rebuilt JDY cluster of the Volt Typhoon botnet has grown to over 1,500 compromised devices and focuses on identifying vulnerable infrastructure, particularly targeting US military entities. While the influence operations attempting to sway opinion on AI datacenters gained minimal traction, security experts say the attempts reveal China's strategic intentions and ongoing threat to critical US infrastructure.
