On June 12, 2025, Air India flight AI-171 crashed into a hostel complex in Ahmedabad's Meghaninagar area moments after takeoff, killing 241 people on board and 19 on the ground. Satinder Singh Sandhu, a 45-year-old supervisor with 108 Emergency Services, was stationed just 200 metres away and heard the explosion at 1:31 pm. He immediately coordinated the dispatch of ambulances and rushed to the scene, where he helped rescue numerous injured people, including Vishwas Kumar Ramesh, the sole survivor of the crash. Sandhu supervised the transport of approximately 70 injured people to hospitals in the first few hours and continued coordinating rescue operations until 4:30 am the next morning.
