3-Year-Old Boy Drowns in Singapore Condominium Pool; Coroner Finds Nanny's Account Inconsistent

A three-year-old boy died by accidental drowning after falling into a 1.2-meter-deep condominium pool while riding a kick-scooter under the care of a 60-year-old nanny who had looked after him since infancy. The incident occurred on March 5, 2025, when the boy rode toward the pool's main area, which lacked physical barriers, and fell in due to the downward-sloping edge. A resident spotted the boy in the water at 6:15 p.m. and alerted authorities; he was rescued but could not be resuscitated and was declared dead that evening. During the coroner's inquiry, the nanny's account was found to be inconsistent with CCTV footage and witness statements. She initially claimed she had turned to place a water bottle on a bench and lost sight of the boy briefly, but footage did not support this claim. Police investigations revealed that a female passerby, not the nanny, first spotted the boy in the pool, contradicting the nanny's assertion that she discovered him. Coroner Brenda Chua noted the nanny was "not forthcoming" and adopted a "deflection" approach, ultimately finding the death accidental while stressing the necessity of constant supervision of young children near water.
